I’ve been using the Withings Body+ smart scale for the past few months, and I wanted to share my thoughts with all of you!

I have been wanting to be more consistent with tracking my weight over time, and of course the only way to do that is to spend money on a tech tool that will take the effort out of a hard task ;) In order to help me with my lofty goal, I traded $100 for this ‘Smart Scale’ in the hopes that it would help me out.

If you want to get the majority of this information quickly, check out the video version above!

TL;DR; Here are my a couple of my favorite features of the Withings Body+:

  1. Integrations. Hands down this is the best option if you want to send your data to different platforms (Apple Health, FitBit, MyFitnessPal, Google Fit, and many more)
  2. Accuracy. Body fat % aside, this scale does a great job of a consistent and accurate weigh-in, which makes a difference when trying to lose weight.
  3. Tools. The Withings Body+ comes standard with TONS of handy features, BMI, Body Fat Percentage, Muscle Mass, Water Composition, and more. It even has pregnancy tracking features (not tested) :)

But that brings us to the first point in this review… I have had a constant battle with where in the world to put a scale in a bathroom?? It’s either in the way so you stub your toe on it all the time, or it’s out of the way so you never see it and thusly never actually use it. Quite a conundrum if you ask me.

But leaving that very important moral dilemma aside, here are my thoughts on the features of the scale:

The opening process, was actually really great, the device is well packaged and protected inside its case, and everything looks good. I fear that we are in a world that everything is compared to the unboxing of a Apple Watch, but hey that makes the packaging of basically everything else even better!

Going through the process of using a scale is like explaining how to use shampoo, so I’ll leave that for someone else, but there are a few different screens that it toggles through as you stand there (and you can customize these to your liking in the Health Mate app):

Weight - the most accurate measure the scale does. It also has 'Weight Trend' to see how it is changing over time. This one I really like!

Fat Mass / Percentage - Less than extremely accurate, but for use as a comparative measure, it seems to perform well (that means over time the trends will be mostly accurate whether you are going up, down, or just staying the same)

Water Composition - Supposedly this is how much water you have in your body? Not sure how to use this info but I have it in my rotation because I think it's cool.

BMI - This number doesn't change enough for my liking,

Bone / Muscle Mass - I don't use this either, it's really just a subtraction from the other numbers, so it seems repetitive to me.

Steps - This is cool, and it shows the integration with other platforms really well. I get this info from other sources though, so I don't have it set up in my rotation.

Weather - I have no idea why this needs to be on my scale. That’s a bit excessive.

Again, you can customize which screens you see in your little daily briefing, using the Withings mobile app. I actually really liked the design of the app, and I think they did a good job of making the important parts visible at a glance (compared to Amazon Halo, which may be the worst fit tracker UI ever)

You can even customize which screens are visible for each member of your household! Each person will have a 'profile' and based on the weight, it will automatically assume which person is on the scale.

And there you have it. Not much more to it than that! I do hope that you got some value, or even just a smile, from the last few minutes of your life :)
